Index Rebalance

In the background at the moment, I am working on introducing a weekly update to the index which will provide some info on the movers in the index as well as the shifting of the balance of the sectors. It's currently running manually on a Saturday, but I plan to automate it over the next weeks.

In the meantime, you might want to have a look at the CleanTech Index updates, which indicate some positive monthly (and quarterly) movements in the broader listed clean-tech sector:

http://www.auscleantech.com.au/PDF/index/1Q13%20Performance%20Report.pdf

I also note they have rebalanced the fund and may drop GRK (Greenrock) due to oil investments and may add EAX (Energy Action) both of which are relevant to this CEI.

The jun-2011 list of companies in the cleantech sector remains on the ASX website (http://www.asx.com.au/documents/research/clean_technology_sector_factsheet.pdf), and they have advised  that they have subcontracted out the revision of this document, but could not provide a timeframe for the update. I won't update the CEI index companies until that document is released.

Clean Energy Show 10-11 Oct, Melbourne

If you are in Melbourne for the next couple of days, there is an expo on Clean Energy technology which may be of interest (http://www.all-energy.com.au/).

I don't see any of the names from the Clean-Energy Index, but I'll head over for a look.

In fact, I'm not even sure what or who 'all-energy' is as there is little evidence of an organisation other than Reed Exhibitions behind them, so if you know, drop me a line.

CleanTech Open winner

The winner on the night was Enlighten Australia, a company which designs and installs LED lighting systems. They don't manufacture them here in Australia, but they had an interesting angle in the way they focus on selling 'energy saving'. They were able to claim up to 93% saving with their light system which includes an occupancy sensor.

They were also one of the companies which is running as a profitable business, although from the pitches, I had the impression they all were.

2012 Australian Clean Technologies Competition

I am off to the award night and showcase for the Australian CleanTech Open this week. You can check out the website at www.cleantechopen.com.au and review the finalists followed by the semifinalists below.

Advanced Plant Nutrition, Toowoomba, QLD
Advanced Plant Nutrition has developed an innovative product (MaxSil) from post-consumer waste glass which will reduce the amount of waste being taken to landfill and can be used to significantly increase plant nutrient uptake and increase crop yields by up to 25%. MaxSil has also demonstrated the capacity to reduce carbon intensive phosphate inputs by up to 50%.

VR TEK Global, Knoxfield, VIC
VR TEK Global has developed a process to turn end of life tyre waste into high-value very fine devulcanised and activated rubber powders that can be used to economically replace virgin material in the manufacture of high-end products in the areas of rubber, plastics and elastomers.

Aeratron, Smiths Lake, NSW
Aeratron has developed a new fan design with increased airflow efficiency that reduces energy use by up to 50% on air conditioning, creates reduced noise and can be retrofitted.

enLighten Australia, Artarmon, NSW
enLighten Australia designs and supplies highly efficient LED lighting for commercial, industrial and residential strata applications, reducing energy consumption by up to 93% compared with traditional fluorescent lighting.

SkyCool, Hornsby, NSW
SkyCool manufactures a cool-roof coating that reduces the internal temperatures of buildings such as shopping malls, airports and warehouses to below ambient typically saving 30-50% of a building’s air conditioning energy giving IRRs of 25-100%.

Biofiba, Point Frederick, NSW
Biofiba is a composite comprising 100% natural organic matter sourced from commercially grown, renewable, non-food crops processed and extruded into a simulated timber plank as an alternative to timber, plastic, cardboard and polystyrene in the manufacturer of biodegradable export shipping pallets.

Tropiglas Technologies, Yokine, WA
Tropiglas Technologies Ltd is developing energy-generating clear glass technology that will have market entry as a clear low-emissions glass for the automotive and building industries. The technology blocks IR and UV radiation and associated heat whilst allowing visible light through.
